PSYCHO HARMONY IN MOTION - PHIM
A Film Documentary by Paul J Lane
ONE ALBUM. TWO SIDES. ONE RHYTHM.
THE FUTURE HAS A BACKBEAT.
Psycho Harmony In Motion goes behind the music of The 306090 as Psycho Rhythms leaves the recording studio and begins its transformation into a living, breathing live experience.
Filmed around The Riverside Sessions, the documentary captures something more important than a band simply rehearsing. It captures a beginning.
Bass cases arrive. Microphones are switched on. Guitar leads are connected. Voices warm up. Musicians find each other in the room. Conversations happen between takes. Arrangements change. Mistakes become ideas and gradually the music that previously existed inside recordings begins to take on a life of its own.
The 306090 Riverside Sessions
At the centre of the film is the musical world of Psycho Rhythms and its two contrasting personalities.
The A-Sides reveal the cinematic, song-driven sound of The 306090 as a live band.
The B-Sides take that same musical DNA somewhere else into rhythm, electronics, remix culture, dance and clubland.
They are not two different projects.
They are two sides of the same rhythm.
As the documentary progresses, those worlds begin to merge.
A song starts with bass, guitar and voice. The rhythm changes. The drums become heavier. Electronic sounds enter. A loop continues where the live arrangement finishes. The DJ takes hold of the beat. A vocalist turns towards a different musical landscape and the room begins to move.
This is the crossover.
The audience witnesses Psycho Rhythms changing form in real time: from live band to remix, from rehearsal room to dance floor, from A-Side to B-Side.
Psycho Harmony In Motion is also about the people behind the sound.
The cameras move beyond the finished performances to capture the spaces in between Paul J Lane on bass and musical direction, Chris Berrow on guitar, the principal singers finding their individual voices within the project, the DJ reshaping the musical environment, and the conversations, preparation and spontaneous moments that normally disappear once the music begins.
For Paul and Chris in particular, the film reveals what sits underneath The 306090: bass grooves, guitar parts, arrangements, musical decisions and the interaction between musicians as an idea gradually becomes a performance the musical engine of The 306090.
The Riverside Sessions are therefore not presented as the destination.
They are Chapter One.
The beginning of a journey from recording studio, to live session, to audience, to DJ and club crossover and ultimately towards the first full public performances of The 306090.
